The Backbend Workshop
Saturday 5th September
@ Kindred Yoga | Depford
2-4 pm | £32
The spine holds our stories. The heart holds our softness, our strength, and sometimes our sorrow. Join Echo for a backbend workshop exploring the shapes we often fear or feel stuck in — and the emotional weight that can sit just beneath them.
Backbends turn the body to face the world. They're sometimes called extroverted poses: an invitation to embrace life, wide open. Through intentional movement, breathwork, and supported heart-openers, we'll use backbending as a pathway to release — inviting the body to let go, open up, and feel more deeply.
With compassion, care, and always a little playfulness, we'll strengthen the back body so it can hold us, allowing the front body to soften. Vulnerability, here, isn't weakness — it's courage.
This is a practice of presence. Of gently peeling back layers. Of meeting yourself exactly as you are. Come as you are, and leave a little lighter, a little freer, a little more connected to your practice.
What to expect:
Deep warm-up to prepare the spine and shoulders
Technique tips for common and advanced backbends
Modifications and props for safe alignment
The breath to support opening and release
Grounding to close
Open to all levels — especially those looking to explore backbends with more awareness, strength, and grace. Come with curiosity, leave with an open heart.
The Humble Hips | Hips Workshop
Saturday 12th September
@ Salt Studio | Richmond
12:30 - 2:30 pm | £40/£45
The humble hips. It's the place many of us carry tension without realising it — and, funnily enough, the place we often get most irritated the moment we start working there. Join Echo on a journey into the hips: demystifying the blockages and exploring what might be sitting beneath the surface.
We'll move from the classic hip-openers you'd find in a Vinyasa flow through to Yin — settling into long holds and the quiet that comes with them. Expect deeper releases, closer attention to alignment, and the particular kind of relief that comes from finally softening a place you've been holding onto. Free the hips, and you often free up more than just the body.
What to expect:
Ways to warm up the hips
Variations including leg-behind-head, pigeon, and splits
Classic Vinyasa hip poses
Yin, long-held poses with assists
Grounding to close / meditation
Open to all levels — expect to feel freer and lighter in yourself.
Tender Rituals with Oceana Mariani | A Yin Day Retreat
Saturday 19th September
@ The West London Buddhist Centre | Royal Oak
2:30 - 6pm | £45/£50
This half-day retreat offers an invitation to slow down and turn towards yourself with care. Through mindful movement, long-held postures, breath, and rest, we'll explore simple rituals that help us reconnect with ourselves, and cultivate a greater sense of ease, presence, and compassion.
We’ll begin with somatic movement - a gentle, intuitive practice that invites you to sense from within. Through soft, fluid movements, you’ll cultivate heightened awareness, unlock greater ease, and coordination.
This embodied movement will form the gateway to a series of supported Yin postures focused on releasing the tension in the body, and down-regulating our nervous system. The practice will be enhanced by the nurturing touch of Thai Yoga assists, an invitation for the body to experience a profound release.
We’ll close with a guided relaxation, accompanied by the soothing vibrations of crystal bowls, chimes, and voice. This grounding soundscape will help clear our head space so that we might sow a few seeds of reflection.
This half-day retreat is aimed at yogis who long for a pause, are in need of replenishing, and want to return to themselves with softness through a more bodyful experience of yoga. All levels of experience will be most welcome
An exploration of backbends.
